Wolfe has been instrumental in uniting the lupus community to form a global research enterprise to accelerate therapeutic development. As a Trustee of Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) and Founder of Lupus Therapeutics, he became a champion for precision medicine and faster cures in lupus after his daughter Jacqueline Wolfe was diagnosed many years ago. He is the co-founder and Chairman of First Washington Realty (FWR), a fully integrated, national real estate investment and management firm that specializes in the ownership of necessity-oriented retail properties, with a nationwide portfolio community shopping centers. Prior to entering the real estate business, he served in the Executive Office of the President of the United States. Bill received his bachelor’s degree from Clark University and his master’s degree from Harvard University.

In recent years, Bill established the Wolfe Rheumatology Fund at UC San Diego to provide clinical care to people suffering with lupus, as well as the Wolfe Family Endowed Chair in Microbiome Research at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. He serves on the Board of Headstrong Project, a nationwide organization that provides free mental health treatment for military members, veterans and their families. Thoughout his distinguished career, Bill has served on numerous private sector and public sector boards, including the University of Maryland School of Public Affairs; the National Bank of Commerce; the Corporate Advisory Board of the Johns Hopkins University Business School; and The Key Program, a New England based youth services agency he founded to provide residential and non-residential services to at-risk youth and their families.
